I was born in 1979 in Chimanimani Town in the Eastern bHighlands of Zimbabwe. In a village called Chayamiti  I used to work in other peoples houses doing cleaning and heading cattle which meant spending a lot of time on my own.So from a tender age I found a friend in music for it was always there for me.The long hours in the African plains hearding cattle gave me a lot of time to sing,at times I believe the cows enjoyed it!Later on I joined the Apostolic Church. This is where I was introduced to hosho(shakers), finer singing and dancing.I became a member of the church choir and was inspired to make my very own first musical instrument,a guiter,at 13years of age.We used to make them out of tins, wood and used bicycle brake cables for strings.

I first met my mother in 1995(as explained in my book,Hupenyu) and moved to Mbare(Zimbabwe's version of Sodom and Gomorrah) with her.She taught me a lot of life's survival tricks, both in words and action. What really comes to mind is a lesson I still practice up to this day.She told me that life owes me nothing and if I want anything I would have to work for it.So it came as no surprise that by the end of 1995,not only I could weave baskets, but was also selling them.In 1996 when I was 17years,I went to a Matsangura Bottle Store selling baskets and there I met the now late Dumisani Machaka,a local musician. We talked about music and soon I was playing his drums. I later met Blessing Mubaiwa from Savanna Arts, who taught me a lot about music and to play Mbira,Marimbas and local traditional dances. In
1998 I joined a group of teen musicians called The Might Spiders Crew.We performed for free at times just to get exposure and experience .Memorable places in our teenage years we played include Amakhosi Theatre and we came second in the Chibuku Road To Fame(Zimbabwe's version of Pop Idol)

As we grew in age so did we in our ambitions. Some big groups became interested in some individuals but I refused to join any at that point as I wanted to try a solo career. I played alone at parties and weddings and then I met Last Chiyangwa aka Tambaoga. This gentle giant of a man was a bookworm and a fountain of knowledge. He always seem to have answers to everything. He is the man who introduced me to one of Zimbabwe's top musicians,Andy Brown, who took me under his wing and introduced me to work in  the studio. I briefly played with him all over Zimbabwe and we toured UK in 2002

I started a new group called Talking Drums with Wilson Magwere and Irish man Eden Milligan and I joined Motion Project We Recorded CD of collection with different Musicians from 18 different countries

I recorded my First Solo CD UPENYU In Northern Ireland And I started to write my own book in 2007 Called UPENYU it will be coming out soon
